This is due to the UK Royal Mail postal rates, one of which is called 'Large Letters'. This rate covers anything smaller than L33.3 X W16.4 X D2.5cm. The postal rate jumps considerably for items larger than this, so it is much more cost effective to stay within these boundaries where possible. The Royal Mail standard ‘Large Letter’ delivery option covers parcels measuring 33.3cm x 16.4cm x 2.5cm or less. Parcels larger than this are charged at a higher rate.
