Recycled
Sustainable Hair Accessories UK
At Inca UK, we are really determined to reduce our impact on the planet and are very excited to be developing a range of more sustainable hair accessories. The most sustainable hair accessories to wear are none - but as this isn't an option for many people, we're working with our suppliers to find more eco friendly hair products - particularly hair accessories made from recycled materials.
The first line of our recycled range to launch is our recycled hair bobbles which are made here in the UK by a local Leicestershire based company. This dramatically reduces the carbon footprint of the products as they are not shipped from the Far East. These soft jersey elastics are made from 100% recycled polyester which stops new polyester from being produced and prevents the old materials from ending up in landfill.
They are made to a high quality standard to ensure that they are long lasting and durable, aiming to reduce the number of replacement hair elastics that need to be purchased across the UK and beyond.
Recycled Plastic Hair Accessories
We hope to be adding more lines to the range soon and are currently developing some recycled plastic hair accessories such as a recycled plastic hair comb and a recycled hair brush. Our long term ambition is to have a complete range of all types of hair accessories made from recycled materials, such as recycled hair clips, recycled hair scrunchies, recycled headbands and recycled hair claw clips to bring more environmentally friendly hair accessories to the wholesale market.
Eco Friendly Hair Accessories UK
Join us on our quest to provide more eco-friendly hair accessories. It’s a small start, but our jersey elastics made here in the UK from recycled polyester are the first steps towards creating a range of recycled hair accessories for the wholesale market. Our minimum order is just £25 and discounts are available for orders over £150.
Are hair elastics bad for the environment?
There are many different ways in which traditional hair elastics affect the environment.
Production
When new hair elastics are produced, each step of the supply chain has a negative impact on the environment - from the production of new materials, to dyeing, and shipping.
Use
When in use, typical hair elastics can shed tiny fibres into the environment which end up in the air, waterways and soil.
End of life
Like other synthetic plastic products, at the end of their life, plastic hair elastics do not breakdown for up to 500 years! When they do eventually breakdown, they will form into tiny microplastics which also end up in the water and land of the planet.
Our recycled hair bobbles are made from recycled polyester which means that no new materials are produced. They are also made just a couple of miles away from our warehouse so there are no large carbon emissions from sea shipping.
Are hair ties biodegradable?
No. Traditional hair elastics contain plastic, and like other products made from plastic, a single hair elastic can take up to 500 years to break down. Even then, they only break down into tiny microplastic particles which can seep into our soils and waterways. https://www.statista.com/topics/5401/global-plastic-waste/
