Ring boxes

We often get asked for advice on how to reuse old gift boxes, in particular ring boxes.  We've pulled together some ideas for you to share with your customers if you are asked this question too...

1.  Storage

Ring boxes make excellent storage for tiny items around the house such as paperclips, screws, dice, buttons, hair accessories, beads and batteries, that otherwise may have no proper home.  Just add a label, or write directly onto them if they are paper ring boxes, so you can easily identify what’s inside.

If you have spare ring boxes with removable lids, you can create a drawer tidy by arranging the ring boxes together and gluing the sides to each other.  Pop into a drawer and voila!  The ring boxes make ideal holders for stationery so you’ve got everything easily to hand in your desk drawer.

2.  Crafting

Get creative and use old ring boxes for crafting.  Give them to kids and let their imaginations run wild!  A great idea is to use them as tooth fairy boxes, as the small ring boxes can be personalised by painting, gift wrapping them in paper or adding stickers.  Your little ones will love to create a box that they can use for those all important exchanges with the tooth fairy.

3.  Sell them

Surprisingly there is a market for second hand ring boxes. Many crafters, antique dealers and jewellery makers will be happy to take them off your hands to use them as presentation boxes and display gift boxes for their products.  Try advertising on local selling sites and you may find that people are often willing to collect them so there are no postage charges.

4.  Donate them

Many charity shops will be grateful to receive ring boxes to help them sell any jewellery that they have in store.  Often small jewellery items are the most difficult to display effectively, plus a gift box makes a nice addition to any product.

5.  Use them for travelling.

Keep hold of a couple of your favourite ring boxes that you can use to take your jewellery away when travelling.  The classic velvet ring boxes with a hinge closure are the best ones to use for this as they are often the most secure and won't spill out in your luggage.
